Hula School in Orange County California

About Leilua Hula

Lorna Leilua Cole - Founder of Leilua HulaLorna Leilua Cole is the founder and sole owner of Leilua Hula in Rancho Santa Margarita (Orange County) and has been running the hula school for the past seven years.

She was born on the Island of Savaii in Samoa and is the 9th out of 13 children. Growing up in a big family was always fun challenging and exciting. There was no television, no electricity and definitely no mall or shopping centers...and yet we had so much fun and there was never a time we got bored. There were enough members in the family to play a game of rugby or Island Baseball using trees to mark the bases. We were choreographing our own dances to perform in front of families and friends and that was the biggest education with us. We learned our culture through singing and dancing and we passed them on to our children, in hopes that they would pass it on to their children and so on.

The Cole FamilyLorna lived and was educated in New Zealand. Currently, she is a credentialed teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience in New Zealand, Samoa, Australia and USA (California), in both the private and public school systems

Lorna married David Cole from Auckland New Zealand and moved to the United States 1997, She has two sons who were both born in New Zealand (Wellington and Auckland).

It was in this school environment that she started to teach Hula. First to her class and then as word spread that she was teaching hula, other students from other classes soon wanted to join in the hula lessons. Out of that need, Leilua Hula was created and has grown to one of the most popular hula dance schools in Orange County.
