Welcome to Leilua Hula!
Whether you have never danced before and feel like you have two left feet or you are an experienced dancer looking for new challenges, we provide all the fun elements necessary for you to reach your goals in a fun and relaxed atmosphere at Leilua Hula in Orange County.
Leilua Hula is a place where no one is here to judge your style…a place where you can laugh about the mistakes you make while at the same time learn something new…a fun and interactive educational program, in which children learn the hula, try their hands at the Poi Ball dancing, and play the rhythm instruments of the Islands.
Why choose Leilua Hula for your hula dance school in Orange County?
Our focus is on creating a hula school environment where students as young as 3 years old can enjoy Polynesian dancing for the pure fun of dancing and for building positive self esteem. We do hula for the pure enjoyment of it!
Leilua Hula School is centrally located in Orange County in the thriving community of Rancho Santa Margarita. When our hula school was first opened, one of the rules we first set was that we would not focus on dance competitions. However, as the school has grown and we have observed the potential of several of our students, we may rethink this rule sometime in the future. At present, our primary focus is not on competition, but on creating a relaxed atmosphere where students, young and old, can experience the physical, emotional and spiritual benefits of Polynesian dancing.
Although we stay away from hula dance competitions, we do frequently perform a variety of events including:
- Birthday Parties
- Ladies Night Out
- Corporate Parties & Gatherings
- Luau's
- Private Parties
- Recitals & Plays
- Baby Showers
- Divorce Parties
- Fund Raising Events
- Wedding Anniversaries
- Various Charities
Every hula party is a reserved night at the studio (scheduled in advance) for groups of friends to have a night away from the kids, where they get a chance to let loose, do the Hula and have fun. No experience is necessary and we teach Hula lessons to everyone in attendance.
Leilua Hula was started by Lorna Leilua Cole nearly 7 years ago and today she is the lead instructor and sole owner of the hula school. She began teaching hula to her 5th grade students at a private school in Orange County. Soon afterwards, other students in the school wanted to join the hula lessons...thus creating the need for a unique hula school in Orange County – Leilua Hula.
What I like best about teaching Polynesian dancing is that it is an opportunity to teach our cultures and it's such a beautiful culture. Everyone should enjoy sharing their culture with others. It is the foundation of how different peoples learn to get along.
The majority of the students at Leilua Hula are school age - from pre-schoolers to seniors in high school and everywhere in between. I take the students as young as 3 and have taken students as old as 87. A beautiful 87 year old grandma drove all the way from Palm Springs to learn the hula with us. It was something she wanted to do before it was too late. Her granddaughter found this on a list on her bedside drawer and immediately bought her a hula gift certificate here…she had a blast!
'It is the priceless smiles and the happiness on the faces of the children fuels our passion for hula dancing. The ability to have fun while learning something new, build self esteem, understand and respect different cultures, and the power to bond families together (especially through our mother and daughter classes) makes Leilua Hula a premier destination to learn Polynesian dancing.
The spirit of OHANA (means “family, where nobody gets left behind") is the feeling everyone gets when they walk into Leilua Hula Dance School in Rancho Santa Margarita.
Leilua Hula dancers take their audiences on an exciting imaginary trip through the Polynesian Islands and those who have been to the Islands will love the free trip! So, for a taste of the Islands of Hawaii, Aotearoa New Zealand, Tahiti, Samoa, Fiji, and Tonga...let your imagination run wild…the fragrance of the Plumeria(pua), soft breezes, soothing sounds of the ocean and waves(n/galu) crashing on the shore, and the palm trees swaying on the white sand. The best way to go on vacation is in your back yard…or ours!
